Abstract

The article analyzes the pathogenetic mechanisms underlying carbohydrate and lipid metabolism disorders in reproductive-aged women with obesity and their impact on reproductive health. The roles of insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia, dyslipidemia, and chronic low-grade systemic inflammation in hormonal imbalance, impaired folliculogenesis, ovulatory dysfunction, and reduced fertility are discussed. The association of obesity and metabolic dysfunction with polycystic ovary syndrome, anovulation, and infertility is also considered.
